Anne historian, author, and journalist who's been nominated for several prestigious awards,

including the Pulitzer and Peabody.

And we've invited him to talk about his recent podcast called The Long Shadow, which he is the host of.

And it's been going for a bit and the most recent season is on the internet.

And we've invited him to talk about that. So Garrett, thank you very much for joining me.

Cool. So I guess the first question we'll just start with is why the Internet. I guess it's

basic, of course, but why not start with the Internet? Why come to the Internet at this point?

And what do you think is crucial about studying the emergence of the Internet as a phenomenon?

Obviously, it's reshaped our lives in numerous ways, but what are you bringing to

this story that has been examined in some detail?
