This week down the podcast, we welcome Ariel Pink. Ariel is an American musician, singer and songwriter whose work draws heavily from the popular music of the 1960s through 1980s.

He is frequently cited as Godfather of the hypnagogic pop and chill wave movements, and he is credited with galvanizing a larger trend involving the evocation of the media, sounds, and outmoded technologies of prior decades.

His low-fi aesthetic and home-recorded albums proved influential to many indie musicians.

In 2021, he lost support from his independent record label, Mexican Summer, following his attendance at a Donald Trump political rally.

He then formed a new band, Ariel Pink's Dark Side, with whom he recorded one album, The Key of Joy is Disobedience.

Ariel and I have a long and interesting conversation about his cancellation, and it's a wild ride, and I hope you enjoy it.
