Hey everyone, today we're going to be talking about hypertension, also known as high

arterial blood pressure.

This is one of the most preventable risk factors for heart disease and death so we thought

it would be a great topic to touch on.

It happens when the force of the blood going through your arteries is too strong and that

causes the pressure to go up.

This silent disease affects one in three American adults and causes damage to the heart, the

arteries, it can lead to heart failure stroke, aneurysms, and kidney failure.

There's two main types of high blood pressure or pressure is my patients like to call it

One is primary, this is the most common, this is when we see a lot with our patients.

It tends to develop over the years and then there's secondary hypertension which is caused

by a medical condition or use of certain meds.

Secondary hypertension typically resolves after the underlying cause is identified and treated
