than a county fair. Maggie and I speak often of the joys that come from living in the country,

the freedom to run along wooden bridges, to explore old barns, to play without fear of the many

dangers that often are unwanted side effects of more people. Robberies, assault, kidnappings. But even we kids from the country

crave the excitement of activity and lights. And since sometimes driving into a larger

surrounding city would require both time and effort on the part of our parents, likely the county fair was the

best solution for both children and parents. Parents don't have to drive very far, and children

get the flashing lights, the fun, and the junk food. The county fair felt like heaven and like freedom in so many ways.
