Summary

This week we are chatting with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee. Rangan is a British physician, author and host of the podcast ‘Feel Better, Live More’. He’s known for the TV show ‘Doctor in the House’ and his appearances on BBC Breakfast. Rangan shares with us the simple techniques he uses to lead a more fulfilling and happy life. For Rangan, the most important aspect of life is nourishing our relationships and having “unmasking conversations” in which we are vulnerable and open with each other.

During this chat Rangan encourages us to re-consider the idea of a hero, whether we are really idealising the right people in connection with our core values.

Rangan shares with us: “even if life is tough, if you can be present - you are winning”

Rangan's new book 'Happy Mind, Happy Life: 10 Simple Ways to Feel Great Every Day' is available now: https://amzn.to/3JKflzB

Hi there, I'm Jay Cumpfrey and this is High Performance. I give to you for free every

0:07.0

single week. This is the podcast that turns the lived experiences of the planet's highest

0:11.6

performance into your life lessons. So today allow me and Professor Damian Hughes, who is

0:18.2

an expert in organizational psychology, to speak to the greatest leaders, think as sports

0:23.6

stars, entertainers and entrepreneurs on the planet and let those people be your teacher.

0:29.8

Today we've got a special episode for you. Here's what's in store.

0:35.7

I think the way I look at money and happiness is I don't think money in and off itself

0:42.3

brings us happiness. I think money can remove common sources of unhappiness. It's probably

0:48.4

how I look at it. We think that when we get a better job, a nicer car, we can go on a

0:55.6

nicer holiday. We get a promotion. We think we're going to be happy. But what happens for

1:02.0

many, many people is that they bust a gut to get all those things. They get those things.

1:09.7

And then they realise, I'm not still feel crap. I've still got that hold on my heart. That

1:14.3

hasn't plugged that hole like I thought it was going to. The number one factor for your

1:21.3

happiness is the quality of your relationships. I've made so many changes since then because

1:28.4

I was, would question myself, whose life are you living? Are you living someone else's

1:33.2

life or are you living your own life? And really my quest more and more is, how can I really

1:41.7

be me? Not perform at being me, not the version of me that I think other people want. How

1:49.7

can I truly be me? Can you be a high performance individual without having high levels of connection

1:55.9

in your life? I don't think you can. So today is all about education, but education in a

2:02.7

different kind of way, educating you in the way you think. As you know, I love the book

2:08.5

Daily Stoic and it's a lesson every single day of the year from the Stoic. There was

2:14.1

a lovely quote I read recently from Epic Titus who said, what is it then to be properly educated?
