Around Halloween, Allison talked to us about the perfect house.

We both envisioned an old house with a big secluded yard, a house

with lots of bedrooms and closets in just the right neighborhood. The family in that story was

haunted by their perfect house. They were watched and threatened to the extent that they took

a massive financial hit to escape the clutches of that home.

Today, we're talking about the perfect family.

We all have visions of what that looks like, but for many of us, our concept of the, quote,

perfect family was shaped by TV shows we watched.

According to an article on mental health.net called the Perfect Family, there are several

myths that many hold in regards to what we would consider a perfect family.

One, healthy families are made up of parents who do not quarrel.

Two, siblings and healthy families are always cooperative with their parents and willing

to help one another. Three, healthy families

are harmonious and without conflict. Four, parents have control over their children, including

where they go and what they do. Five, in a healthy family, the father goes to work, and the mother remains at home to raise the children.

6. Everyone lives in nuclear families. A nuclear family is made up of a father, mother, and children.

Many of the myths of the nuclear family were a result of post-World War II life in America.

The perfect nuclear family was expected to live in the suburbs.
