Today's poem is by E. E. Cummings, Edward Estlin Cummings. He lived from 1894 to 1962.

He supposedly wrote over 2,900 poems, plus two autobiographical novels, four plays,

and several essays. He's certainly one of the most famous of 20th century poets, mainly associated

with free-form poetry with modernism, but he also was clearly knowledgeable about various forms, and I think

you'll see that in the poem that I'm going to read today.

It's called, I carry your heart with me, I carry it in.

So here is that poem by E. E. E. Cummings.

I carry your heart with me.

I carry it in my heart. I'm never without it. Anywhere I go, you go, my dear,

and whatever is done by only me is you're doing, my darling. I fear no fate, for you are my fate, my

sweet. I want no world, for beautiful you are my world, my true, and it's you or whatever a moon has always

meant, and whatever a sun will always sing as you.

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows.

Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of a tree called life, which

grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide.

And this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart.

I carry your heart.

I carry it in my heart.

So as I said, Cummings is commonly known for, for modernism, for free-form poetry.
