| 0:41.0 | I'm on the conversation around science, Washington. So if you guys haven't had a chance to check that article out, definitely check it out on our profile link on the main Instagram page for us. |
| 0:51.0 | And this episode for me is very special because I feel like this really encompasses the essence of what I meant in that article, which is you can't fake science. You can't go around it, you can't cook corners. |
| 1:04.0 | And I feel like Dr. Koo's line, which is known as she called it private practice, is the most perfect example of the kind of application of scientific principles to more aesthetic products and services that we have available to us. |
| 1:20.0 | So definitely take a listen. Let me know what you think. And again, if you haven't checked out the article, be sure to do that. |
| 1:27.0 | Thanks guys. |
| 1:37.0 | Hi guys, welcome back to skincare and our key. I am very, very excited to be hosting this episode. And I can't wait because this line that I'm going to be kind of introducing you guys to today is something that's really changed my skin and just, you know, in the matter of two weeks, I'm a huge convert. |
| 2:00.0 | I feel like at this point. So, you know, without further ado, I want to introduce you guys to Dr. Michelle Koo, who is the founder of Koo Skincare. Welcome to show Dr. Koo. I'm so honored and so humbled that you had the time for this. |
| 2:17.0 | Dr. I am so honored and humble. I'm thrilled to get to meet you. I'm impressed by your credentials and your enthusiasm. What an honor for me. |
| 2:27.0 | Oh, no, not at all. I just, I, I'm obsessed, you know, with the line. I think it's just the most elegant and sophisticated and beautiful line. I've come across and I don't know how long and I can't wait to dive into that. But before that, I want to talk to you about your career and your journey. |
| 2:45.0 | Because I know it, you know, there's a lot that went behind the thought that went behind creating this. So if you don't mind, could you walk us down memory lane, maybe even get started with why you went into plastic surgery and, you know, all the, all the details. |
| 2:59.0 | Oh, I'd love to. I grew up in Palo Alto, went to Stanford University, ended up going to Washington University Med School in St. Louis, did my plastic surgery there as well. |
| 3:14.0 | I was always kind of a lab geek. I was in the lab studying college and metabolism and wound healing actually is how I started when I was in general surgery as well. And then when I was in general surgery, I was trying to decide what's up specialty I wanted. |
| 3:33.0 | Seeing all the different subspecialties, I wanted to have a meaningful impact and make honestly making meaningful impact on people's lives in a way that empowered that made them, honestly, it sounds so stupid, but I wanted to really make people happy, happy with themselves. |
| 3:51.0 | I thought, wow, what better way to do it than plastic surgery. It makes a meaningful change is a quick change. And it can be a very deep long lasting change. And that's really why I kind of pivoted into plastic surgery because I am kind of a results oriented person. |
| 4:09.0 | I started on the skincare journey. Most plastic surgeons are not honestly interested in necessarily skincare because honestly, what we work with our hands, right, we've transposed, we move, we repair, we we shift tissue all over the place. There isn't anything you have that I can't fix or what I say I can't make better. |
| 4:30.0 | But in all the years and I've been at this 28 years, I was selling skincare to support my patients and I was giving them and myself a lot of private label brands, lots of mainstream brands, |
| 4:45.0 | I got skin surgical, skin medical, you name it, I got private label, I did tons of skincare and I would try it on myself of course in my entire staff and you know what I thought, wow, these are really expensive and I have to look and face my patients every couple weeks when they come back and try to sell them more, but I really wasn't seeing a meaningful change in their skin. |
