Okay, so you used to be in a boy band. I did, yeah, yeah, yeah. Your vocal range and ability to change genres while you're singing is absolutely incredible.

Thank you, man.

How much of that is gift versus skill set that you've just adjusted and figured out over the years?

You know, I grew up singing in church. My mother was a singer in church. So that's kind of my foundation. I mentioned I'm from West Texas. There's not a huge music scene out there. So it was like, for me, it was like community theater, musical theater. I went to the school for the performing arts. But then like, you know, in my free time, it was like memorizing, learning, studying anything I could get my hands on. So R&B, rock, you know. So I feel like I have a wide kind of range of training that I've grown up with and had my whole life that's kind of perfectly prepared me for a show like Dancing with the Stars where I can kind of switch without having to think too much about it. This is like the perfect match. Yeah, totally. How often are you challenged with the song that really pushes you? I wouldn't say, like, I feel super challenged too often. For me, the last week was probably the most difficult one of the season. We did Errol Smith's Dream On. Which, phenomenal performance. Thank you, man. Yeah, that one was a challenge, it's more like keeping the voice healthy to the whole season. You know, it's like I tell people we do, I think this season's 11 episodes. For us, we start usually a week or two before the season. And from the like the day we start till like when the season ends, like right before Thanksgiving, it's nonstop. So for us as singers, it's like by episode seven, eight, nine, it's like I'm holding on by thread to keep my voice healthy. So it's more just like how can I keep my voice healthy to get to the finish line type of thing. But yeah, the Aerosmith Dream On one was a fun challenge. That one was really cool to hit those like Stephen Tyler,

crazy whales, and then come back, you know, the next week to have a healthy voice to sing all the stuff I'm doing this week. Yeah, what does your week look like now? So yeah, we have rehearsal on Friday this week. Normally it's on Saturday. As in the whole Ray Chu band. Yes, it's the whole band. It's like, you know, like a, I don't even know, like maybe like a 20-piece band.

2:34.2

And then there's like a whole, you know, like a, I don't even know, like maybe like a 20 piece band.

2:52.9

And then there's like a whole, you know, team that's not on stage. It's not with the band. There's audio guys and sound technicians and engineers. Like, I'm just a small piece in the machine that you see and hear on TV every week. There's so much that goes into it. People have no idea and I'm sure Ray will let you know more about that too. Yeah, Ray's coming on the next podcast. I'm very excited for that. How do you find yourself getting into this? This is a cool story. I don't think I've gotten to tell. So I got into this. I actually got into this through Mark. Mark Ballas is, that's like my brother. you know mark is best best man at my wedding. You know, we go way, way back. And he brought me on, I'm not sure what season it was, is maybe, it was like 10 years ago now, I guess. It was in 2015. And he brought me in for a one-off. He wanted me to sing. I think it was when he was with Alexa Pina Vega was his partner at the time
