| 0:56.9 | And the results of these gases have been devastating, hotter summers, colder winters, and stronger |

| 1:05.8 | But one of the first modern phenomena caused, at least in parts by human involvement, |
| 1:11.1 | was the dust bowl. |
| 1:12.8 | The dust bowl wasn't one single event. |
| 1:15.4 | It was actually a series of dust storms that swept across much of Middle America and |
| 1:20.1 | parts of Canada during the 1930s. |
| 1:22.8 | The rampant farming in the Great Plains during the 1920s had removed the native grasslands, |
| 1:27.9 | turning the land into soil for growing crops. |
| 1:30.8 | Unfortunately, the tractors and combines that were churning up the grass were displacing |
| 1:35.8 | the very thing that was keeping the land moist, even during periods of severe drought. |
