We're going to talk about some of the things Dusty May said on the broadcast for the Mavs last summer league game against the thunder. We're live for that one on the Lock on Maps YouTube channel as well as my Twitch, my Twitter and all that stuff. So at Nick Van Exit for all those. I'll be streaming the Mavs and Nick's game, the last summer league game last Mavs basketball until September, I guess, right? So we'll talk about some of that stuff. I want to talk about the young core the Mavs have as well, because Dusty May commented about that. A couple other interesting things. But let's start here. Dusty May was on the broadcast with the Mab's game against the Thunder, and you know he got to ask all the normal questions.

You know, you get asked.

It's like, oh, why did you choose the Dallas Mavericks? And why is now the right time and all that kind of stuff? But he did ask, was asked about Cooper Flagg. And he did answer that question in a way that thought was interesting. He said that Cooper Flagg will play anywhere from one to four this season. Last year, Coup played a lot of point and that expedited his growth where his playmaking and the balls in his hands and all that is you straight increased. I foresee us playing him anywhere from one to four and taking advantage of those matchups. I think he'll shoot more threes. We got to get him more space. He's a guy that can get 15 to 20 without running a play for him.

He runs the floor, gets the, you know, boards off the offensive glass. He's competitive. And part of our, you know, Young Corps and all that kind of stuff he talked about. There's a lot of things in there in a short period of time. And I just want to break all of them down. First thing he said, I think it's the most interesting is he said he's going to play anywhere from 1 to 4 this season.

That doesn't seem surprising, right?

If you're somebody that just knows Cooper thing he said, I think it's the most interesting, is he said he's going to play anywhere from one to four this season.

If you're somebody that just knows Cooper Flagg's game, knows what kind of a player he is,

knows how you would imagine using him, that's not a surprising statement.

But last year, going into the season, we did hear that the head coach of the basketball team for the Dallas Mavericks wanted to use Cooper Flag as the point guard. Wanted to play him as a point guard. So

that's what he was used as the point guard. And now, it's going to play him one through four,

what you think is the right approach. Cooper Flag is a type of player that can take advantage of any

kind of mismatch that you have. He goes out there and you got a smaller defender on him. All right. He takes a shot over the top of you or gets down to the post and scores over the top of you. You got a big guy on him. He's going to get around you. You've got a slow guy on him. He's going to run around you. You've got a fast guy on him.

He better be big enough and strong enough to stay with him. He can do so many different things. Take advantage of so many different mismatches. And he said exactly that. He said take advantage of the matchups, the mismatches. Exactly right. Now, playing him one through four helps the Mavericks in a bunch of different ways. and also playing him one through four says he's still going to play some point guard too, have the ball in his hands, do point guard things. I don't think Dusty May gets as caught up in positions as we do, as much as he gets caught up in what the player is asked to do. Remember when he has asked earlier about what position he's going to play Cooper Flagg?

And he said he plays all over the floor.

It's pretty clearly they want to play him in a bunch of different ways.

But I am curious about, all right, how spreading out Cooper Black's minutes all the way across

those different kinds of positions and playing in with a bunch of different kinds of players

gives opportunity for other guys to play other spots right they're not just trying to just all right

only one guy can play in one position so it's kairi as guard and max's guard and flag is wing and PJ

is wing and lively as the big and then you got to pigeonhole everybody else into spots too
