About Us

Join the Party is a D&D actual play podcast with tangible worlds, genre-pushing storytelling, and collaborators who make each other laugh each week. We welcome everyone to the table, from longtime players to folks who’ve never touched a roleplaying game before. Begin with Campaign 2 (The Join Campaign) for a modern, sci-fi superhero game, or marathon all of Campaign 1 (The Party Campaign) for a high fantasy story. And once a month we release the Afterparty, where we answer your questions about the show and how we play the game. New episodes three Tuesdays a month.

0:15.0

for those of you who are not familiar, starting with.

0:17.0

Eric, what's Dungeons and Dragons?

0:19.0

Well, Dungeons and Dragons is a role-playing game where a bunch of people sit around a table, have fun,

Dungeons and Dragons allows you to tell a story, but also you're playing a game and also you're hanging out with your friends.

0:48.0

If you were to sit around like you're on a camping trip or like a road trip and people were like okay let's tell a story

0:56.2

Like how would that even happen? It's so difficult to just kind of pull

0:59.5

Yeah, you would just like pull things from your brain and try to do it as much as possible.

1:04.0

But there is a game system to kind of facilitate that, and you get to play as an adventurer or as a hero.

1:10.0

It is all about playing in like a heightened space where you get to make choices that is like set it doesn't necessarily need to be in fantasy, but it's usually set in that fantasy setting.

1:18.3

Very Lord of the Rings. I'm going to go do this quest with my allies and we're going to defeat a bad guy.

1:25.6

And what is a relationship like as we play the game between the DM, yourself, and the

1:30.3

players?

1:31.3

Right, so DM stands for Dungeon Master, which is what we said before.

1:34.4

The players get to control the main characters.

1:37.9

Think of this like your protagonist, your heroes, again if we're using Lord of the Rings

1:41.8

as jumping off point, this is like Aragorn and Gimli and the
