Let's dive in to our discussion topic for today on Dungeon Masters Lutus.

And we're going to be talking all about the art of the encounter.

Now, we know most of you out there who are listening to the show,

probably are roleplayers already and know what an encounter is,

but just for the sake of putting us all on the same page,

here's what we're defining an encounter as.

An encounter in a role-playing game is a structured scene or situation where player

characters are faced with an obstacle, challenge, or conflict that requires action.

There are scenes that involve social interaction, combat, or skill checks that have a risk of

failure and can change the player character's circumstances.

And I think in that definition, the thing I want to focus on the most is the fact that it is a

scene or situation. Whenever I talk about the structure of role-playing game, I always kind of go

from the macro level down. The macro level is the campaign. A campaign is a series of adventures that are your
