Summary

This week's reading from the Gospel of Luke shows us that our encounter with Christ is an invasion of grace and that we must be ready to welcome that grace and go out into the depths, and ascend to the heights, at its calling.

Friends, welcome to Word on Fire, Catholic Ministries. Word on Fire is an apostolate dedicated

0:07.6

to the mission of evangelization, using media both old and new to share the faith on every

0:13.4

continent and to facilitate and encounter with Christ and His Church. The efforts of

0:18.5

Word on Fire engage the culture and bring the transformative power of God's Word where

0:24.0

it is most needed. Today we invite you to join Bishop Robert Baron as he preaches

0:29.8

the gospel and shares the warmth and light of Christ with each of us.

Peace be with you. Friends, the story of the miraculous draft of fishes in the gospel

0:40.1

of Luke, that's our gospel for this weekend, is a masterpiece in both the literary and

0:46.5

the spiritual sense, because in many ways the whole of the spiritual life can be read

0:51.2

off of this story. I've spoken often before about the powerful symbolism contained in

1:22.2

his livelihood. That's what that boat represented. Again, think of someone just getting into

1:29.0

your car, without being asked, without being invited. How would you respond? I thought

1:34.6

you'd be a little bit alarmed. And then, without further ado, Jesus begins to give orders,

1:44.1

first telling Simon to put out from the shore, and then famously to go out into the deep.

1:52.8

This represents what I call the invasion of grace. Grace breaks into our lives, shakes

2:03.4

us up, confronts us. The single most important decision you will ever make, now listen to me,

2:10.5

because we make all kinds of decisions, you know, financial and familial, in terms of

2:16.1

our friendships, and they're all important. But the single most important decision you'll

2:21.0

ever make is this, will you cooperate with Jesus once he decides to get into your boat?
