Ladies and gentlemen, we are going to spend the next hour exploring story and fairy tales.

The talky bit this month is a recording of the talk given by Joanna Coleman from this year's Anderidafest Conference that happened at the end of January.

Joanna is doing a PhD in fairy Tales and her talk takes what many of us think of as kind of pithy children bedtime story and or Disney film fodder I guess and opens our

eyes to the truth behind these stories that many of us know and love.

I'm looking at the shape shifting myth and the way it's retold in contemporary stories.

And when I started my PhD, I wanted to, I sort of made the decision to keep my faith out of it.

I wanted to be, you know, serious academic and to be taken seriously.

When I talk about magic to my colleagues, I'm talking about the kind of magic that you get in a fairy tale rather than that I would do, for example, in a ritual.

But gradually, as I got deeper and deeper into the stories, I began to see that something that the

stories are saying, and maybe something that we're all saying actually,
