Music With Tatars flying, with staccers flying, with sticks, bells and horns, the dancers came wending their dance to perform.

To honour their gods, to dance in the seasons, to give thanks to the land, these were their reasons.

They gathered to honour their mother the earth,

and their father the son with excitement and mirth.

But they gathered in secret and fear tinged their hearts,

for now they were outlawed for dancing their dance.

So with blackened faces at dusk they did meet, though they knew that fear would

quicken their feet. They danced in the fields, they danced in the barns, they came from the villages,

the towns and the farms. They danced in the wild wood to thank the Lord Hearn for his bounteous gifts as the green man returned.

They danced to the lady in all of her guises, of maid, mother and crone, to the moon in her

phases. They knew they risked all for the dance, life and limb, for to dance to the old gods

some said now was a sin. But still they danced on

till the dance it was done, lest folk should forget that from nature we come. And so we dance now
