flying robots watch over our borders help search and rescue missions and survey roads and pipelines.

It may sound like science fiction, but it's happening. Right now, the FAA is considering new regulations for drones.

Amazon wants to test a fleet of them.

That's a scene from Alex Rivera's film Sleep Dealer. It's a sci-fi thriller set in Mexico in a dystopian

future. In it, the border is policed by military drones, so migrant workers can only cross it virtually by plugging their bodies into a digital network of robots.

Sleep Dealer came out in 2008, but it's just now available online and is experiencing something of a revival.

Steve Paulson cut off with Alex Rivera to talk about the symbolism of drones.
