On February 15th, 1998, Eve Carstet was sleeping next to her husband in their cozy home on Manhattan's Upper West Side when her phone's loud ring jolted her awake.

Squinting at the bedside clock, she registered that it was well after 11 p.m. and hurriedly rushed for the phone before it woke up Mark still dosing beside her.
