What's up everybody? Welcome into the next Pats podcast. I am Phil Perry. It is late Thursday night here at Jolette Stadium. And Patriots fans who were here were able to leave with a little bit of hope.

And I don't know how often we've been able to say that over the course of the last several seasons.

I know we had random flashes here and there.

Cam Newton era, obviously Mack Jones's rookie year.

I'm about Mac Jones last

year against Buffalo. But in terms of true hope, the good stuff, the pure, unadultered hope,

where your imagination can run wild with optimism really wasn't available in those moments that I just mentioned in the way that it was

tonight at Gillette Stadium because the hope was generated by someone with a physical

skill set that you have seen succeed and succeed at a very high level in the NFL, in the modern NFL especially.

Of course, we're talking about Drake May and his performance where he finally,

I say finally, he only had one opportunity before this one, but he had an opportunity

for extended reps in a preseason game.

He went six for 11 with 47 yards and a rushing touchdown.

He also took a sack for eight yards.

But that is a very surface level description of his night.

What I want to do here on next paths is go through his action in the second and third quarters and then have a bigger picture

discussion about how the Patriots should handle him moving forward.

Okay.

First though, let's parse through some things when it comes to how his night started,

where it ended up, the good, the bad,

the ugly. And I think you could argue you saw all three from Drake May in this game here tonight. First play I want to mention is his scramble for six yards. I didn't like that play from Drake May.

I thought maybe it was the result of just a tad bit of nervous energy.
