Summary

The 2026 NFL Draft just got its first major controversy — and it has nothing to do with tape. Pack Daddy breaks down the rapidly unraveling Dan Orlovsky situation in full, tracing how a single bold take on Get Up turned into one of the messiest media meltdowns in recent draft history.

  • The CAA connection: Orlovsky, Mike Tannenbaum, and Ty Simpson are all represented by the same agency — and both media members publicly went to bat for Simpson as QB one within hours of each other, raising serious questions about conflicts of interest and the long-standing tradition of agents using media relationships to boost draft stock
  • The 12-to-15 GMs claim: Orlovsky doubled down on Pat McAfee, claiming nearly every NFL decision-maker he texted agreed Simpson is the top quarterback — only for both Daniel Jeremiah and Mel Kuiper to flatly say they haven't spoken to a single person who believes that
  • The meltdown in real time: From "what big games?" to inspirational quote-posting and dodging Pat McAfee's FaceTime, Pack Daddy walks through every painful step of Orlovsky's implosion
  • The bigger picture: Whether or not this specific conspiracy holds water, agents have always tried to influence the draft narrative — and this saga is a masterclass in why you should always follow the money before you follow the take

However, I don't think we can have an NFL draft podcast without talking about this really weird Dan Orlovsky nonsense that's going on right now.

0:55.0

So let me start at least with this.

0:57.8

It has been long assumed that many people in the media are at least to some degree up for sale when it comes to certain. So, for example, the way that this works

1:14.4

is obviously where a guy gets drafted is massive. If you are an agent and you represent

1:20.3

somebody and somebody gets drafted, you know, 10 overall compared to 50 overall, your cut of that,

1:31.8

as well as your reputation along with representing people, takes a massive hit.

1:36.7

Whether they're a first round pick compared to a second round pick is obviously massive.

1:47.0

And so as an agent, it's basic due diligence to try to work with these media members to get them to pump up your prospect.

1:53.5

Right? So I guess what I'm saying is I'm laying out a conspiracy theory and explaining why it's really the path of least resistance. It's not an extreme thing. And from the standpoint of why

1:58.6

would a media member do this? Well, there's two reasons. Number one, potentially, and I'm not saying this is direct, but potentially money. Secondarily, though, relationships. You want to be the guy that breaks the news. You want to get the insights. You want to be able to pick up the phone, call an agent, and say, what's the status of X, Y, and Z, and they're supposed to answer you why? What's in it for me? Quid pro quo. Why do I get to pump you full of information so that you get to go on your TV show and talk about how insightful you are? And I'm hearing from this person or that person, why would I give you that information unless you're willing to work with me?

2:35.0

So it becomes kind of a godfather thing. The whole, you know, a day in the future and that day may

2:43.4

never come. I will ask you one favor. In that favor, you cannot refuse. One of the people that is

2:50.5

expected, there's no proof, there's no smoking gun, but there seems to be a lot of suspicion and evidence, again, not proof, but evidence, a pile of whatabouts or whatever, that don't directly connect anything, but it's suspicious,

3:11.0

tying Mel Kuyper to these types of things.

3:14.6

In large part, because there seems to be a lot of times where he will stake his reputation

3:20.4

on the most random thing and will swear up and down that not only he but everybody knows

3:25.8

that this is actually a really good prospect, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and it begins to feel

3:30.4

more like a campaign than an NFL analyst doing analysis. Let me let me go down this rabbit hole for
