Summary

Florida State had four players selected during the 2021 NFL Draft, and one former blue-chip -- DT Marvin Wilson -- go undrafted. The guys of OTB go over the draft and share some insights on why players went where they went (or didn’t, if that makes sense). Plus we get into the state of linebacker recruiting after Jaron Willis picked Georgia Tech over FSU, and what’s up at quarterback now that the dust has settled following the commitment of AJ Duffy. Welcome to On The Bench. I am Brendan Sonone. This music is not s**t Joshua Newberg.

0:23.0

I got Chris Ney, Anzac Blossom as well. Fellas, how was your weekend? I don't care.

0:27.3

Actually, let's just get down to it. The NFL draft happened. The NFL draft happened. I nerded out on it.

0:33.4

Chris did as well. Some FSU players were selected somewhere and that takes us here to On The Bench.

0:40.0

So let's start off with the positive fellas. Chris, I'm going to throw those to you.

0:42.6

It's not a Samuel Jr. that first FSU player taken on the draft. He did not go day one.

0:47.5

He did not go the first round. But he does go day two, second round to the L.A. Chargers.

0:51.3

47th overall. Joins Derwin, James and Lala Land. Seems like a really good fit.

0:56.7

Yeah. I mean, the ballpark for him was always about 35-50. I think it's probably fair.

1:02.8

Excuse me. I think we all thought he was going to go off around 35-40 and be truthful.

1:07.6

But yeah, L.A. is a good landing spot. Derwin, James, push for him. That's always good to see a little no love.

1:14.1

And I think we've seen that L.A. defensively is a very aggressive team that allows our DBs to kind of live on that island

1:21.4

and do what they have to do at times. So I think it plays to the Saute strings. I think it's a good landing spot for him.

1:26.9

They had Desmond Keen a couple of years ago. That was an undersized defensive back who was really quick, really physical.

1:32.8

So they know how to utilize that type of guy. That's really the main reason why a Saute Sandel Jr.

1:36.8

doesn't go into first round is pretty much his size because everything else to steal Chris Neism, checks the boxes.

1:43.8

He's just was a extremely consistent, competitive cornerback, good technique, good testing numbers, production was there.

1:54.3

Just everything was there. Just lacked optimal size, but he goes to a franchise that knows how to utilize DBs in a way to maximize their strengths, high weaknesses.

2:02.9

So yeah, it's good for a Saute Sandel Jr. I want to get into a couple of the other names here that were drafted.

2:08.9

But I think the probably the biggest storyline of the week for Florida State is probably the decline of Marvin Wilson.

2:16.2

And Timorantary to a lesser extent, but neither of those guys getting drafted. Josh, do you want to paint a picture?

2:22.7

Remember like two December's ago, how excited we were that day when we were able to confirm that Marvin.
