fur by Jeremiah Tolbert. Jeremiah is a writer, web designer, and sometimes photographer.

He writes science fiction, fantasy, and sometimes

horror.

His work often places an emphasis on working-class characters and how genre elements

impact their lives.

It's predominantly optimistic about science and is often set in the Midwest generally and his home state of Kansas specifically.

He lives in Lawrence, Kansas, with his wife and infant son.

Of the story, J.T. says,

This story came to me wholly formed in a dream one day.

I wrote it in a white-hot tear,

desperate to capture all the details and emotions that

it somehow seemed so immediate in that dream.

It's about how our pets live such short lives compared to us.

It's about what happens when someone tries to do something

about that. This story first appeared in Asimov's 2014. Our narrator this

week is none other than the author J.T.'s talented wife, Sarah Tolbert.
