Summary

Roughly one in seven people in the world suffer from migraine and it’s one of the most impactful diseases in the world.

The problem is that migraine is really stigmatized and influences negatively people’s lives, not only by incapacitating them over a recurrent period of time but also by making them feel less worthy because they suffer from it.

Luckily, there are people who dedicate their lives to finding non-addictive types of pain management and to bringing awareness on the second most disabling disease in the world. On today’s episode, my guest is Dr. William Young, the associate director of the Jefferson Headache Center.

Dr. Young has helped people enhance the quality of their lives substantially, through his work. He is a professor of neurology at Thomas Jefferson University and he is very active in the training of future neurologists and a really good guy who knows a whole lot about headache in specific.

So, don’t miss Episode 09 of Rejuvenaging, where you’ll learn the difference between a headache and a migraine and also, why people suffering from migraine are affected in their day-to-day life.

Questions I ask:

  • How big of a problem is it? How many people in the country or in the world, have migraine? (03:46)
  • Is stress the cause of migraine? (05:08)
  • Who would be responsible for causing the stigma of migraine or contributing to it? (10:29)
  • How is it mentally healthy to act if you're a migraine patient? (13:21)
  • Do you have any specific advice for older migraine patients? (23:27)
  • Can you tell us a little bit about some of the success stories? Some of the breakthroughs that have been made in the treatment of migraine? (24:53)

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The difference between a headache and a migraine. (02:47)
  • How migraine can negatively impact people’s lives. (04:20)
  • About the stigma of migraine. (06:33)
  • About the advocacy efforts that are being made for bringing awareness on migraine. (15:34)
  • The problem of opioid addiction and the research that is being made for finding non-addictive types of pain management. (17:46)
  • About Miles for Migraine – an NGO that militates for people suffering from migraine. (20:04)
