Hello and welcome back to Not Just Paleo. I'm your host, Evan Brand. Today, we've got Dr. William Shaw on the podcast. This is a fun one. So William Shaw is the clinic director over at Great Plains Laboratory. I use Great Plains Laboratory for every single new client. I run organic acids testing on them, which is a urine test that shows us about 75 different markers,

0:22.5

including mitochondrial function, liver detox function, amino acid metabolites, neurotransmitter metabolites,

0:30.3

so we can take a look at dopamine, serotonin function,

0:33.3

we can look at quinolinic acid to look for inflammation,

0:36.5

we can look for arabinose and tartaric acid, which lets us know whether you have a

0:40.8

candida overgrowth or not.

0:42.4

We've got plenty of claustridia markers, so we can see if you've got bacterial overgrowth.

0:46.9

A lot of people talk about the term SIBO, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.

0:51.3

We can measure that from the urine.

So we're going to be chatting

0:54.5

a bit about organic acids, but we're also going to be chatting a lot about the GPL talks, which is a

1:00.6

non-metal, meaning not heavy metals. We're not testing for that in the urine, but we're testing

1:05.1

for non-heavy metal chemicals. This is MTBE and ETBE, which are gasoline additives that you'll learn more about in just a second.

1:13.6
