Hi Dr. Dyer, hi Diane, it's a great honor to talk and I'm a high school teacher in the public school system and I started out teaching science but

now I'm very I feel very lucky to be teaching a life skills course it's a special education kind of placement and I'm teaching life skills such as study skills, time

management, but really positive thinking and stuff like that can also be incorporated.

So I wanted to know how to be more effective in teaching the teenagers of today.

It just seems like sometimes they don't seem to want to do the work. So in a more fun way like you were just saying

Yeah, even journaling if I get them to do journal

Sorry, go ahead. No, I, someone once said to me, you're not really a teacher, you're a stand-up comedian.

And I used to think to myself, if you can keep them laughing, and if you can keep them enjoying what they're doing. Instead of making it an onerous chore, you know,

something that they have to do, somehow the, you know, making something come alive to me is what great teaching is about.

I always wanted to be the teacher in the school that the kids look forward to coming to rather

than, you know, this is something that they had to go through.

And I would play games and use a lot of humor, do acting things, get the kids involved involved whatever the subject matter was if you're

talking about life skills I would have them go through you know interview each

other for job applications you know get you know have, have the kids dress up in a certain way at certain times,

you know, just to make education like life, you know, totally unpredictable and fun and not take yourself too seriously and, you know, enjoy it all.

My teacher, Nisar Godata, had something in India once said to me it was very very important and powerful

lesson.

He said don't take your life so seriously.
