Now the hardest part about gratitude for most people is the understanding that you have to also be grateful when things don't show up.

And you have to learn, this is the toughest part, you have to learn to be grateful for that which you don't have.

And for the suffering that you are going through,

and for the experiences of scarcity

that seem to be present in your life.

Learn to be grateful even for what you don't have.

This clip reminds me of when I was just a wee boy, just a little small boy,

and my brother and I would get into the back of my dad's Cadillac on our way to school,

and my dad would turn the key on his Cadillac and the car wouldn't start.

And with confidence, he would say, boys, get out the car.

We'd get out the car and, you know, he would go to the front of the car and he would lift up the hood.

And he would look at the wires that were connected to the battery.

And he would show us that there was corrosion on those wires. And so he would look at the wires that were connected to the battery. And he would show us that there was corrosion on those wires.

And so he would remove the wires and then he would clean them off, get the corrosion off.

He'd reattach the wires to the battery.

And then we'd get back in the car and he turned the key and it would turn on.
