Today on Roon Soup, we are speaking with Senior Research Fellow of the Naitahu Research Center at Canterbury University, Dr. John Reed.

Dr Reed is a specialist in economic and social development within an indigenous context

with a particular emphasis on New Zealand and Polynesian experiences.

Dr Reed, thank you very much for your time.

No problem. Lovely, all right right so we have a traditional first

question. So John were you a weird kid? I suppose in a way I was I was a I wasn't say so much a loner but I certainly

has spent a bit of time to myself and certainly enjoyed my own company.

Maybe that counts as being slightly weird.

Enjoyed your own company wandering the countryside?

Enjoyed your own company in a library?

I mean, were you like a proto-academic as a kid?

No, not really.

I was pretty much of, I actually came into academia quite late it was never that good

at school and so on but when I was a when I was a child I know I did I spent a lot of time

had a I did I spent a lot of time at a childhood where I could roam and a mother that let me do so.

So I didn't really have too much in the way of boundaries.

And so, yeah, I got to, I suppose, relate to the world

in a way that was less restrictive.

And this roaming childhood was that in the Canterbury area?
