So many of us grew up reading those dystopian novels like 1984, Brave New World.

There always seems to be this authoritarian entity.

And I think that when we dreamed about it, you thought, well, there'd be police marching

the streets, maybe house arrest, ankle bracelet.

But maybe it's easier to control us than all of that.

What if they just control your money?

What if they could just shut down your bank accounts?

This is something that we watched happen during COVID many times.

Remember the Canadian truckers?

Remember those news stories that looked like this?

Bank customers are having their account shut down without much warning or explanation.

Banks have already started to freeze the accounts of people involved in the protests.

Banking services are being ripped away from controversial figures.

Najafaraj, his bank, just out of nowhere, pulling his account.

And this is what's really disturbing is he's now approached seven banks since then

and none of them will open an account with him.

We received about three complaints just within a couple of weeks time span.

Banks close their accounts or held their money for weeks with no explanation.

More than 66,000 was frozen by Citibank last December.

Branch manager made her show everything from her social security card, passport, driver's license,

even her birth certificate, but still wouldn't unfreeze her money.
