Dr. Karlawish has also written essays for the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Forbes, The Hill, Nature, STAT, and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Currently he is a Professor of Medicine, Medical Ethics and Health Policy, and Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania and Co-Director of the Penn Memory Center, where he cares for patients. He is a member of the Board of Directors of The Greenwall Foundation. He lives in Philadelphia.

1:00.0	All right. Thank you, Jason. So share with our viewers and listeners your background, because it is extensive and it's very specialized.
1:08.7	I'm a physician. I trained in internal medicine and then after my internal
1:13.8	medicine residency I pursued additional training in geriatric medicine and then I started faculty
1:21.7	at the University of Pennsylvania about 1997 and pretty rapidly in that work I began to focus on the diagnosis and treatment and care
1:31.1	of older adults with cognitive problems. I started working. It was then called the memory disorders
1:37.4	clinic, but we changed the name to the Penn Memory Center. And I've been working there ever since
1:42.5	every Friday I see patients and the rest of
1:45.0	my time I divide up amongst a variety of research projects and writing projects one of which
1:49.5	resulted in this book for example and it's a tremendous book and I highly recommend even if you're a
1:56.0	layperson or a medical professional this book has something really for everyone it's it's kind of an anthology or a history of the disease, but also where it's headed
2:06.0	and kind of up to the 2020s, so modern day.
2:10.2	And there's some fascinating history and tidbits in there that I profess I had no idea about.
