And I say both names because while I know that many of us have come to know and revere the many

versions of Malcolm X that we've learned, and when I say versions, I mean the many evolutions.

We've watched him as he grew from Malcolm Little into Malcolm X, into El Hasch Malik El Shabazz. And

many of us had the privilege of studying Malcolm X and being trained through his writings and

teachings, even if not directly by him, such that we know what it is to hear his name,

El Haj Malik El Shabazz. But we're also aware that, frankly, there are a lot of people out there

who simply don't know nearly enough about him, nor are they clear about how the words that he spoke

and that he wrote decades ago can still shape and frankly liberate black lives.
