It's been nearly five years since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a worldwide pandemic.

One of the first researchers to document its community spread was Dr. Helen Chu with UW Medicine.

Now, Chu's team has a new study up and running in Seattle that's meant to help us prepare for the next pandemic.

We'll talk with Dr. Helen Chu about C-Prep in a few minutes, but first, let's get you

caught up.

It's Election Day. If you haven't returned your ballot for today's special election, you're

running out of time. The cities of Burian and Seattle each

have an initiative, as well as the Shoreline Fire Department Regional Fire Authority. Both Isoquois and

Seattle school districts have levies and bonds on the ballot. To make your voice heard on social housing,

minimum wage, school funding, or fire and emergency service oversight, return your ballot to an official dropbox by 8 p.m. tonight.

It is still dangerously cold this week, which means King County's severe weather shelters are still open.

Last week's severe weather protocols have been extended through this Friday with a potential for another extension.
