So I'm thinking of a word. I'm going to describe it. I want to see if you can guess the word that I'm thinking about. You ready? It starts wars. It sabotages dreams. It destroys relationships.

It drives and motivates for all the wrong reasons. It gets results, but not the kind that last.

It makes people isolate, pull in, and hide.

It also makes them step up and lash out. What's the word I'm thinking about? Can you guess?

It's shame. Dr. Kurt Thompson joins me today for a fascinating conversation on shame.

Title of his book, and it's an older one, it's called The Soul of Shame, retelling the stories we

believe about ourselves. Is it possible?

I think it's probable that there are parts of your narrative, your story, that you believe about

yourself, aren't actually accurate, that you're believing some lies about yourself. As I said,

this book is old. I've talked, not old, but older, a few years older, and I've talked to Dr. Kurt about this numerous times, but as I was digging

into it again today, I'm like, this is such a powerful book. I know some people need it. And because

it's a backlisted title, we had a tough time getting copies to give away. So you know what I did?
