Summary

Dr. Bruce Maccabee is a retired optical physicist, and has been one of the premier UFO researchers in the last few decades. His accomplishments in this field are too long to list here, but in particular, Dr. Maccabee was the first to receive the FBI’s UFO files via a FOIA request in the late 1970s. A FBI story on a memo in these files has been getting a lot of attention lately. In this story, the FBI referenced having released the UFO memo in the 70s, they were referring to Dr. Maccabee. Even though this is the case, no one in the media has bothered talking to Dr. Maccabee about the memo, so we are. We will talk about how the media has gotten this story wrong, Dr. Maccabee’s opinion of this now infamous “Hottel” UFO memo, and what insights the FBI’s UFO files give us into their investigations into the subject. 1:07.1	So before Jason and I start to talk about our top UFO stories of last week, I do want to tell you a little bit about our guest today, who is Dr. Bruce McAbee.
1:19.8	He's an optical physicist where used to be for the Navy for many, many years.
1:25.4	And for decades, he's also been a UFO researcher.
1:29.9	We had it on today in particular because these FBI UFO files have been in the news,
1:36.1	and it was actually Dr. McAbee, who first put in a FOIA in the 70s to get these files released,
1:46.9	so we might not even know about these files if it wasn't for his work a long, long time ago. And of course, the media has been
1:52.7	getting it completely wrong saying this file was only released. I've seen stories where it says
1:57.5	the file was only released recently or that it was released two years ago,
2:02.0	but no, it's been a long time that they've been out. So we're going to talk to Bruce about that.
2:06.8	And interestingly, even though he believes, and we've talked about this before, but we'll talk
2:11.2	about it with him, that this file's, you know, the result of a hoax, he says that there were
