In truth, like technology in the insurance sector is driving innovation beyond the insurance sector.

It's driving innovation across multiple sectors.

Well, if there's one topic, we in the UK are never short of having an opinion about

its weather.

Could be why flood insurance has, unlike many areas of the world, been automatically included

in insurance cover in the UK for a long time.

But of course, flood risk itself is a problem everywhere, and there are big changes

in the US now with the NFIP. That's the government-backed National Flood Insurance Program, which is

looking at new ways to rate risk. It's also opening the market up to insurers to offer

alternatives to what, until recently, has been quite a restricted market.

Well, many successful companies have been spun out of universities, and as you're going to hear

in a minute, the founders of Fathoms started with a research project at Bristol University.

They're now building flood models around the world, and they count leading insurers as their

clients.
