Summary

Welcome, welcome, welcome to a very special bonus episode of the Distraction Pieces Podcast, this time delivered to you on a Monday - fresh and ready for your beginning of the week podcast-hungry ears. This time round it’s a Distraction Pieces Flashback, and we’re going all the way back to episode 42…

This bonus is entirely dedicated to the unique and very open story of Ramelle, when she was a guest all those years ago. Seeing as it’s currently Refugee Week, what better time to revisit the touching and heavy tale of Ramelle, as depicted by the woman herself in her own words. These subjects, occasions, causes and dedicated days and weeks are so important to keep the conversation moving and evolving, and as most of what we engage in on a daily basis revolves around what’s next, next, next, it’s so nice to actually go back and revisit. See where things left off and if the situation has indeed evolved or progressed since. So join us in going back a good couple of hundred episodes as we pick up with Ramelle and her tale. If you missed this one first time round, you have to catch up with it now - you will not regret it.

You will hear an intro from Pip, and then we'll go into the original episode in its entirety, and then Pip will address the outro. It'll make sense when you hear. Think of it as an older episode in a new updated wrapper.

Please follow Refugee Week on Twitter, check their website for updates, and engage in the subject when the opportunities arise. It’s good to know where we all stand on this epic subject and give some time to stories like this.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. Hello, you lot. Surprise, surprise.

0:06.0

I seem to be in the habit of giving you bonus episodes of late A, but I wanted to give this

0:13.0

unnumbered bonus or reissue really. I'll put it out today because this is the start of

0:24.0

Refugee Week. I'm due at the 20th. It's well-refugee day and I do some work every now and

0:33.0

then with the IRC and they have really good campaigns to bring awareness to refugees, to the

0:42.0

struggles, to stuff that still needs to be fixed and helped. And I'm going to be doing some posts

0:48.0

on the 20th. But it got me thinking about this episode from way back in the archive. So I'm

0:57.0

leaving the original intros and outtros and everything on. But I'll give you a quick bit of

1:02.0

information. This was episode 42. So this was a good four years ago. And I was given the

1:10.0

chance to sit down with a refugee called Remel who I didn't really know too much of a story.

1:18.0

It's basically I did this. I worked on an album for a charity and we each, each artist,

1:28.0

essentially, each songwriter got to sit down with a refugee and hear their story and then

1:36.0

write and record a song kind of inspired by it. Again, all this is in the intro. So I'll stop this now.

1:44.0

I'll stop my rambling. But Remel's story really moved me. And we've kind of, we've kept in touch over the

1:51.0

years. You'll hear at the end of this chat that Remel was making some music. Well, she hit me up last

1:57.0

week. Just, it's why it was fresher in my mind to send me a copy of her album. So that's kind of

2:05.0

fantastic and exciting. So yeah, I wanted to reissue this. I said I'm not going to ramble on too much

2:11.0

because there's an intro that explains everything and an outro that explains everything. I'll pop back to

2:16.0

give another outro, I guess. While I'm here, this was the first of a few kind of quite special and

2:26.0

personal and dare I say important episodes. So if you enjoy this one, I would really urge you to

2:37.0

go and listen to episode 86, which was a special safe housing for women, but we're a spoke to a young

2:45.0

lady called Mira who was brought to this country in sex trafficking. And she wanted to share her story.
