It's always a good thing when you have a couple of talks at a conference and you get up to speak with the second one that

defined that people are still here. So let's give this time to God. Father we

commit this time to you and I ask you bless and direct our thoughts as we work through this material.

So my topic this morning is bad words, mockery, and sarcasm.

And I'm going to begin with satire and then move

into the related issue of scare quote bad words. So with regard to our broader ministry

one of the things that we are asked most frequently concerns the propriety of satire.

How is satire consistent with the biblical requirement to consider others better than yourselves, to bear one another's burdens, to love

one another, and so on. The answer to these questions is found in the same place

where we seek to find answers for all of our questions, which would be the word of God.

In Galatians 5, it says this.

This is verses 12 through 15.

I would that they were even cut off which trouble you.

For brethren, you've been called into liberty,

not only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve

one another.

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this.

Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
