All right, guys. We got a special guest on the podcast today. His name is Doug O'Donnell.

So he is the senior vice president of Bible editorial at Crossway. And additionally,

he is the author and editor of over a dozen books, including the beginning and the end of wisdom,

the pastor's book, the Song of Solomon and Matthew in the Preaching the Word Commentary series

and Psalms in the Knowing the Bible series. So he's also contributed to Song of Solomon and Job

to the ESV expository commentary. He received his PhD from the University of Aberdeen. And we get

into his education and kind of how he got into biblical and theological writings and those types

of things. But the reason why I had him on the shows, because I had a book that I wanted to talk

to where basically or talk about, I want to talk to the author about, how did we get the Bible

in modernity? How did the Bible get to us? Because there's a lot of confusion, a lot of cultural ideas

about how the Bible was passed down and how it was translated and how the canon was decided on.

And most of it is just flat out stupid and wrong. And so I wanted to kind of clear the air on some

of that. So at the beginning part of the interview, probably the first half hour. So we talk about

his educational background, how he got into the writings that he has. We get into some of the

things that Crossway produces because they've just produced this brand new men's study Bible. It's

absolutely fantastic. The ESV men's study Bible. So we spend some time talking about that. How does

Crossway decide on what types of content they're going to do and how they discuss theological

disagreements. But then we got into the Bible itself. We talked about how it was transmitted via

multiple translations over multiple millennia and not just centuries, but millennia. How can we trust

the real Bible? How can we trust? It's an airancy. We talk about an airancy quite a bit. We talk

about different translations. He's had a lot to do with the ESV translation. So how do we get the
