Summary

Doug Logan was running a barbershop in Patterson, New Jersey when he met Jesus. Doug, who is black, quickly married his girlfriend Angel, who is white. Within days, he was preaching on the streets to the homeless. In the twenty-five years since, their interracial marriage has been a kind of proving ground for the experience of racial tensions that have come along with being black and Reformed, both in majority white and in majority non-white contexts. That included serving at a historic, majority-white Presbyterian church in Philadelphia and planting a church in Camden, New Jersey. Now, Doug serves as the Associate Director of Acts 29 and the president of Grimké Seminary, where he hopes to equip more pastors like him to bring new expressions of Reformed theology to the urban context. 0:32.8	But when he and I met, it was long before all that.
0:36.5	We were both attending a church planting conference for an organization called Global Church
0:41.0	Advancement, or GCA.
0:43.0	It was essentially a conference for reformed and reformed-minded church planners, most of them
0:47.9	Presbyterian, and most of them educated well beyond either of us at the time.
0:52.6	The whole thing was pretty heady stuff. I was in my 20s.
0:56.0	Doug was a bit older than me, but we were both very green in ministry and feeling out of place.
1:01.6	Was it 2005 that we met? Yeah. Yep. We were in Orlando and like we were, we were kind of fish out of
1:10.5	water at that conference, if I remember right.
1:12.9	You remember exactly right.
1:14.5	I was new.
1:16.1	I had been reformed about an hour and a half.
1:18.9	And I had been with the white boys for about two hours.
1:22.9	And so, and I had never been around that many white people in my entire life in terms of Christians.
1:28.9	And then the things that were being said, I never heard them before.
1:32.5	So it was a full immersion baptism into young restless reformed and then just reformed faith, period.
