Doug Keller talks with J about the history and philosophies of yoga. They discuss why Doug left academia to spend 14 years in Siddha Yoga Ashrams, the process of adaptation that defines yoga's evolution, vedic tradition, capital T tantra, Hatha Pradipika and the democratization of practice, meditation and samadhi according to different viewpoints, attempting to escape vs embracing the cycle of rebirth, manifestations and expressions of expanded consciousness, and the importance of knowing truth from within.

Greetings to you, fair listener. I hope this moment meets you well.

I don't know about you, but I've been feeling a little bit overwhelmed by the continued onslaught of dismay and destruction happening in the external world.

And maybe it's always this bad.

Maybe there's always this much dismay and destruction in the world.

And in the past, we just didn't have all this technology and media to know about it.

Maybe it's always been this bad and it's nothing new, but it sure feels crappy.

And I've been thinking a lot about power, political power, military power,

creative inspiration, power.

I've been having all these conversations on the show,

essentially making the case that if we focus on our internal landscapes, it will have an impact on the external world.

And on some level, I feel that to be true, but it could also just be wishful thinking.

On some level, though, I guess I don't really have much choice.

I don't have any choice about it.

It's not like I really have any say about the tectonic forces at play in the external world.

I do have some say about what happens in me and the attitudes and the actions that I express in my mundane life.
