We're going to talk this morning about studies involving female happiness

and specifically the paradox of declining happiness for women.

We're also going to talk about the Hofstra date rape that, in fact, was not a rape at all,

and the new TV show, The Good Wife.

So, Hannah, can you walk us through

a little bit what these findings about female happiness are and why they're paradoxical?

Yes. So there's been six studies. There was a big general social survey one that came out in the

spring and then there was a more recent one. And basically, to summarize the studies, they show that since the late 60s and 70s, women have become increasingly unhappy on

various measures of happiness. You know, the idea is that women have made all these advances,

both in working life, in parity of child care, where husbands are doing a lot more child care.

And yet all this sort of, you know, life changes and more choice has basically made them less happy.

And this holds across all ages.

Women tend to get less happy as they get older.

There's also been tremendous increases in unhappiness among 12th graders. I mean, really,

wherever you look, women have gotten more unhappy. So that's kind of a bummer, huh?
