I told you that you could actually double the amount of wildlife you see in your garden

0:17.7

in a single year by using native plants.

0:21.2

Well, I haven't done this, to be honest with you guys.

0:24.6

I've certainly increased the amount of wildlife I see in my garden, but it's mostly through

0:33.7

better mulching practices, etc.

0:35.9

But we do have Mary Phillips back on the show.

0:38.2

She's the head of garden for wildlife at the National Wildlife Federation.

And actually, not just attracted to, they cannot thrive without them.

1:00.8

And I think we've mentioned milkweed and you have another podcast, How Essential, that's

1:05.9

a really great example with the monarch.

1:08.2

They can't survive without that.

1:09.8

So just by putting in a specific species that's a host plant for a specific wildlife, you're

1:14.7

going to be doubling that amount.

1:16.2

You will see their caterpillars, you will see the butterflies around there.

1:19.6

They need other supports as well.

1:21.5

That's one example.
