Welcome to the Jill on Money Podcast. It is Friday, October 16th. And so what do we got? We got weekly claims again and guess what? Not great. In the week ending

0:17.9

October 10th we had another 898,000 Americans claiming unemployment benefits and that was up by 53,000 from the

0:27.4

previous week.

0:28.9

So that is not great news.

0:30.8

It's staying pretty elevated. The good part of the report is that the

0:35.1

number of people who are already receiving benefits, that's dropping and that's

0:39.5

going down at a pretty good clip. I'm happy about that. So if you look at that number it's

0:45.0

just over 10 million down 1.1 million from the previous week. Now let's go to

state unemployment benefits.

0:57.0

Don't forget there's all these benefits that have been offered through the

1:00.2

Cares Act, through the federal government's emergency provisions during COVID, and the total

number of people who are claiming benefits in all programs, and this is a little bit of a lag so it's the weekending

1:14.0

September 26th 25 just under 25.3 million I mean that's just a heck of a lot of people so there are people suffering out there

1:25.5

gang and so if you know someone who is suffering try to do something nice for

1:30.5

that person because whoof it is is brutal for some of those folks and it's

1:35.4

hard to get a job right now. Okay let's get to your questions. If you have a

1:40.5

financial question something going on for you send us an email ask Jill at

1:45.2

Jill on money.com that is what Brian did he says he's a long time listener I'm going to be

1:52.1

making a higher than usual charitable contribution this year.

1:56.8

And I have appreciated securities that I was planning on donating.

2:00.6

However, I've been reading about donor advised funds and was wondering what you think about them
