Summary

Watch the full coverage of the live stream on The Emily D. Baker YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/eCpmhdqfwDs Day 5 of the Donna Adelson trial happened on August 28, 2025 and focused heavily on the critical wiretap evidence presented by the prosecution. We explore the intricate web of phone calls between Donna, Charlie Adelson, Katie Magbanua, and Sigfredo Garcia, highlighting how these conversations reveal attempts to cover up information and Charlie's escalating panic. These recordings are presented as critical evidence by the prosecution to establish conspiracy and cover-up attempts. The analysis highlights the "game of telephone" played by the co-conspirators as they relay information and react to developments. Charlie's increased panicked state as the investigation progresses. He is heard trying to control the situation, denying knowledge of a "family problem" to an undercover agent, and attempting to convince others not to talk to authorities. His calls reveal his belief that law enforcement wouldn't have sufficient evidence, despite being on a wiretapped line.Donna claimed to the under cover agent, that her grandchildren using her phone and her openly discussing the situation with friends, are presented as attempts to deflect responsibility. The prosecution views her actions, including her repeated urging for Charlie to "handle it," as evidence of her involvement in the conspiracy. The prosecution's approach of likening the case to "train cars that didn't move" and emphasizing the rapid, back-and-forth communication among the conspirators is noted. The trial is nearing the end of the prosecution's case, with a highly anticipated "clarified audio of the jail call" (where Donna discusses a one-way flight to a non-extradition country) still to be presented. Welcome back. It's time for a case brief, keeping you in the loop with the cases you care about most.

0:04.0

Just more briefly. If you want the full coverage, it's linked in the description below.

0:07.7

But for now, let's get into it.

0:10.7

It's trial day five.

0:13.8

In these five days of evidence of Florida versus Donna Edelson, so much has happened.

0:20.5

The prosecution is going to be starting

0:23.2

to get to the end of their case. And what I expect that we're going to see today is all the rest

0:29.6

of the video, the audio, except for maybe that recorded jail call after Charlie's convicted.

0:34.5

So I think we're going through a lot of video today. That's just based on what

0:38.0

the prosecution said yesterday that this witness will be on the stand the rest of the day. And that's

0:42.9

what I expect. When I went through the probable cause affidavit with all of you, and 24 pages is an

0:48.4

extensive PCA, and they had some of the wiretap information there. It didn't read to me the same way it does in full

0:55.1

context. Because reading it, I was like, is Donna trying to pick up on what Charlie's putting down

1:01.0

or what's going on? And then going through the whole thing, those calls after bum bum, who's in

1:08.4

charge of that conversation? It's not Charlie, in my opinion. I think those calls

1:13.5

are critical for the jury. Remember, Donna Edelson's being charged with murder, conspiracy to commit

1:18.5

murder and solicitation of murder. Did she conspire with anyone who was part of the conspiracy

1:24.1

to commit this murder? And were there overt acts? Bring in the money

1:29.3

is an overt act. Trying to cover it up is an overt act. It's going to be interesting to see how

1:34.2

the prosecution argues this at the end, but we still have a defense case in chief. And remember,

1:38.3

during pretrial motions, they said Donna was going to testify. What are you going to say about those

1:42.2

calls, Donna? I can't imagine it's not surreal for her sitting in the defendant's chair listening to her son just not picking up what she's going down. I wonder if she's listened to those. Or if her lawyers are like, you were talking in code, this is what Charlie said. Or if her lawyers are like, don't worry about it. Charlie already went to jail. They're not going to convict you. Donna needed to stop to use the restroom and drive slow and get snacks. That's what her attorney argued. We will see. So for all of you that are new to the Launard app, thank you. You guys have been getting your notifications. You've been loving the case briefs if you can't make all day of trial.
