The countdown is over. With jury selection set for August 19, the final pre-trial hearing in the Donna Adelson case has now wrapped, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Prosecutors and defense attorneys squared off in a tense Leon County courtroom today, arguing over what evidence the jury will get to see—and what will be kept out entirely.

At the center of the battle: the bitter divorce file between Wendi Adelson and Dan Markel, a stack of legal documents the state says proves motive, and the defense calls irrelevant and prejudicial. The judge split the difference—allowing only parts directly tied to Donna into evidence, but letting prosecutors use the rest as a visual to show jurors the sheer scope of the hostility.

Gang ties also took the spotlight. The jury will hear that confessed hitman Luis Rivera was a gang member, but not that he was a Latin Kings leader—unless the defense proves it ties directly to Donna’s fear and state of mind.
