My name is Tiana, my Ghana name is Gunga Bina, which means the caring one.

To begin, it's important that we acknowledge the country that we are on.

I'm on Ghanaian to the lands of the Ghana people of the Adelaide Plains.

We would like to pay our respects to the custodians,

to the ancestors that nurtured the land and the elders that have led the way for generations. This is your

land, this is your country, it has always been Aboriginal land. And as this is a

podcast whose reach is far and wide, we would like to extend our respect to the

elders of the lands this recording might reach. Yes.

This is a story about the girl who became Tasmania's first female police commissioner, Donna Adams, written and read by me 12-year-old

Olivia Lye.

Telling someone that their loved one had died was one of the hardest moments in Donna

Adams career. At the time she was a detective with Tasmanian police in Belarith. It was April 28th, 1996 and she just

received a concerning call from her superior.

Hey Donna, we're going to need you to go down to the shift early today.

There's something going down at Port Arthur.

Donna got on the car of her colleagues and sped south.

There had been a shooting.

A man had opened fire on people at a tourist site.
