I got to sit down with the brilliant historian and expert on fascism, Ruth Ben-Giott,

and we discussed the knock-on effects of Donald's disastrous war of choice in Iran.

And we tried to ask this question, how is it that those in Donald's inner circle can just

watch him falling asleep in the middle of meetings

and say absolutely nothing. In fact, pretend it isn't even happening. Enjoy. So Mary, yes, there's so

much to talk about. And so you, on your amazing substack, had recently a very sobering article about the coming food shortage.

So we could, if you could talk about that, you know, this, the farmers are suffering.

And of course, this was the demographic that Trump originally promised to love and cherish,

and they would be forgotten no longer.

Yeah. And as you know, long before this, the second iteration of the Trump regime has been incredibly bad for farmers anyway.

People don't know necessarily, but dismantling USAID, which was one of the most vital and important agencies this country had,

which did incredible work around the world and increased our soft power and all sorts of stuff,

also enormously benefited in American farmers because they were paid by USAID to send their produce and goods to other countries that needed food and supplies.

Also, the tariffs have been horrible for farmers, and Donald's Provenneswellian beef stance has been horrible for farmers.

So to add insult to injury, I mean, despite, you know, giving them money to bail them out from a

problem he created, this increasingly alarming global energy crisis is having an enormous impact on the availability of

affordable fertilizer, which makes it without fertilizer, it's kind of difficult to do the farming thing.

So we are looking at, and these aren't short-term disruptions.

Like even if the straight-of-form moves opens tomorrow, which it's not going to,

we are looking at the disruption of cycle.
