Summary

Oh dear oh dear: it was supposed to be a Republican wave - in mid-terms, the opposition normally does well, there's massive inflation and Joe Biden's popularity is low - but it didn't happen. To explain what the results mean - for the Democrats, the left and Donald Trump - I'm joined by David Sirota - journalist, former Bernie Sanders speechwriter and writer of 'Don't Look Up'.

This was supposed to be a big Republican wave, it didn't happen.

0:03.5

A trickle, more like.

0:05.2

Now, magas and porters are not happy. Let's just have a little listen.

0:09.3

We can see the fraud.

0:11.7

We can see the fraud in the machines, Draza. We can see it. We can see it.

prism of Trump and a lot of voters wanted to reject Trump and Trumpism, which is actually

0:57.7

the most exciting part of the election results last night, I think.

1:13.1

the economy sucks or inflation is bad, and they didn't actually put forward an actual agenda of

1:20.0

what they would do. So it seems that the country, speaking broadly here, didn't necessarily have

1:27.8

the confidence in the Republicans to deal with the economic issues that the country knows are a

1:37.3

problem. So I think moving forward, it's not that the election happened, everything's fine.

1:43.3

It's that it kind of was writ large, the country saying the economy is not fine,
