And I have a sense of being down a rabbit hole at the moment. I don't know whether you do. I don't know how across the news you are, but it is currently the most red story on, I think, on our website and on the BBC website. And therefore, clearly it is a tale of a tale of a late-night American chat show host, of whom you may not have have heard being suspended from his job for saying things

that I can't construe currently as even being controversial. And the reason why I mention a rabbit

hole is that all of the chatter about free speech in recent years has come from what I would

loosely describe as the right. The right

wing were constantly insisting that their free speech was being impeded or suppressed. That

ludicrous character, Toby Young, who Kemi Badenock put in the House of Lords, even set up an

organisation, protecting people whose free speech was being suppressed.

And when you looked at the examples, I guess one of the biggest examples would be a woman who pleaded guilty to the crimes for which she was imprisoned and whose appeal against her sentence was such a dismal failure that the notes from the judge,

the memos from the judge come about as close to calling her a barefaced liar as any legal professional can reasonably do.

But, hey-ho, the Daily Telegraph, have turned her into a folk hero.

And then, of course, the determination to dead name or deny the reality of transgender
