Writers all go through spurts.

Writing is miserable, writing is wonderful.

In my own experience I find that when the writing is wonderful. In my own experience I find that when the writing is terrible, it's usually

either because the story itself is broken and not working and we instinctively realize

this, or we're distracted from the story by real world stuff.

I definitely found that to be true last fall in winter when writing was feeling like

pulling teeth there for a few months due to my distraction with some remodeling projects and

family events. But the blessed thing about winter usually is that there are far fewer

distractions. Ever since Christmas I felt like I've been on an absolute role with my writing.

I finally feel like I'm making major forward progress,

just reaching the midpoint in Dreambreaker,

and I'm having so much fun with it.

Usually I'm happy to take my enforced weekly days off but right now the best days are

always the riding days. I'm excited every morning when I wake up and

that's something considering waking and up are two of my least favorite words. But I'm

excited to wake up knowing that in just a few hours more I get a brew coffee and go write.

The writing life of course is all about ups and downs, but I'm just enjoying it while it lasts. And now I hope you

When you think about it, the transformative power of the written word is no less phenomenal than the technological miracles

of computers, televisions, and smartphones.

Both are alchemy.
