Mountain Dew is one of those drinks that catches your eye when you're walking down a grocery store aisle.

It's among the soda giants and it's safe to say that a lot of people like it, but in equal amounts a lot of people don't.

Perhaps they don't like it because of the color or

the fact that it's tied to extreme sports. Maybe it's the high whopping amount of

sugar or the extremely high amount of caffeine or maybe it has to do with its torrid history and coloring

that has led to a lot of misconceptions about this beverage that originally started out as

an additive in the 1930s. In the 1930s Barney and Ali

Harmon were two brothers from Georgia who decided you know what Georgia just

wasn't for them and they moved to Knoxville Tennessee. The reason they moved, well, it turns out these two brothers

were big whiskey drinkers, and they decided

that they were going to move, and they wanted their favorite mixer

at the time called Natural Setup.

But it wasn't available at that time in Knoxville, you see, and so therefore they decided well instead of having someone ship us bottles of this mixer, why don't we just make our own?

And they made it a carbonated lemon lime drink to mix with whiskey and

because of the fact that it was created in the mountainous areas they named it

Mountain Dew which is an old time slang for the word moonshine.

There you go, the more you know, the better off you are.

So when you're taking a swig of mountain dew playing your favorite video game

while eating some Doritos, remember, mountain de Dew actually just means moonshine.

After several years, they decided, you know what, it's getting so popular out here, let's go

ahead and try to sell it.

Unfortunately, no local stores were keen on selling it because so many lemon lime sodas had existed.
